Shadow Ghosts

Have you ever been quietly reading a book, or simply sitting daydreaming, when you noticed a flicker of movement in your peripheral vision? Was it like a shadow or haze, passing briefly by your side – but when you looked around there was nothing there? If so, you may have encountered a shadow ghost.
Appearance of Shadow Ghosts Shadow ghosts (also known as shadow men, shadow folk, or shadow beings) are gray-black in color and often resemble human silhouettes with no discernible features. They are mist-like with no real mass, and can appear as a dark cloud between two and eight feet in length, or as a human figure wearing an old-fashioned hat or hood. These shadow beings can appear in flat 2D forms, or even as vaporous 3D forms as if made from smoke. Most are thought to be adults – but even shadow children have appeared from time to time.
Behaviour of Shadow Ghosts
Shadow ghosts are known to be evasive, often darting about in dark corners and raising suspicion, but never quite confirming their presence. In fact, most people who report seeing shadow ghosts say that they either pass between walls or disintegrate completely when noticed. They are most frequently spotted in the home, although some sightings put them outdoors as seen from a distance.
It is intriguing that reports of shadow ghosts make them out to be playful, cheeky and elusive – as if they are playing a game with us. Others have reported more threatening encounters, where the “hat man” (as he is known) stands menacingly in the doorway and looks down at the floor. But more commonly, shadow ghosts dance about on the walls, first moving slowly as if passing through mud, then quickly hopping about the room, as if in fast-forward mode. This makes them extremely difficult to catch on camera – although such photos do exist. The difference between shadow ghosts and regular ghosts is that shadow folk don’t wear clothing (except for the hat or hood) and they don’t attempt to communicate. However, their presence is often accompanied by a feeling of fear or dread, and sensitive individuals feel the air go temporarily cold.
Explanations for Shadow Ghosts
There are many theories about where shadow ghosts come from. The most common belief is that shadow people are the unattended remnants of ghosts; persisting in our reality even though the spirit has moved on to the next plane of existence. They may also arise due to a build up of negative energy, where extreme emotional or physical trauma has occurred, or even where occult practices have taken place.
Some people believe they are demons. In fact, if the eyes are seen, they are only ever reported asbeing red and glowing. This also supports the feeling of fear reported when a shadow man is present. Another explanation is that they are entities from an alternate dimension who only show through into our reality when the realities occasionally overlap. If so, they might only catch glimpses of us, the way we only partially see them Some people believe they are demons.
