A recent Gallup Poll has found that Mississippi is the most religious state in the US, with 59% of those polled considering themselves 'very religious'.

...The Gallup poll classified 40 percent of Americans nationwide as very religious -- based on their statement that religion is an important part of their daily life and that they attend religious services every week or almost every week. As I have stated in the studies the Southern states are more religious than the Northern.

But has being religious only to do with believing in God and attending services?

I do not think so.

I think that people are also religious when they are of another non-Christian religion, believe in mother nature, being a Wiccan, Pagan or an Agnostic.
Even an Atheist is believing in something when not in God so in himself.

So I think a lot of people tend to be more religious than this study shows.
My own is a free spirit. No-one and nothing can put it behind bars, walls or in chains. It will force its way, breaking the limitations, but will be also present with kindness and wisdom :)

I found this information also

Residents of Southern states are generally the most religious, underscoring the validity of the "Bible Belt" sobriquet often used to describe this region. Coupled with the Southern states in the high-religiosity category is Utah, the majority of whose residents are Mormon -- the most religious group in America today. On the other hand, residents of New England and a number of far Western states tend to be the least religious.
