As you know by now Japan was hit by a magnitude 8.9 earthquake, one of the largest in the country's history. The earthquake caused a tsunami that flooded parts of Japan and later hit Hawaii and California where some damage is reported. As of right now six nuclear reactors are experiencing problems as a result of the disaster. Radiation leaks have been reported.

Per news reports at 10:00 Central Time Saturday night March 12, 2011 there are conflicting reports regarding a possible meltdown in one of the reactors.

They said on the news a minute ago the situation at the reactors is worse than first thought and the amount radiation is higher than first thought. The latest toll of dead and missing is 13,000.

I think the nuclear crisis will be far worse than the Chernobyl one, if it isn't already. I think there are 3 leaking radiation now, if just one of these melts down then they cant work on the other 5 that are in need of water and repairs. that means you could have 4 meltdowns and the other two giving off radiation and other toxins like cesium-137 and strontium. now I think they are going to try water cannons?

I HATE nuclear power - this is as good an example why we shouldnt be using things we CANNOT control when things go wrong. Japan was supposed to be the safest nuclear country on the planet - now look. Mother Nature ALWAYS wins.

Look at the numbers of reactors along the US coast - earthquake and tsunami zones. Its terrifying and the exact reason I hope our little group of islands never take on nuclear power.

It was reported today they detected radiation in milk and other food items from the region. That is very troubling. Media reports also indicate charity donations are way down compared to Haiti and the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

I agree completely, this is going from bad to worse very quickly. TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) has a history of not telling the truth when they've had problems, so I take anything they say with several grains of salt.
