Meteorologists Philip Klotzbach and William Gray -- in the 27th annual early extended-range hurricane forecast issued by Colorado State University's Tropical Meteorology Project -- predict 11-16 named storms will develop, 6-8 of them hurricanes and 3-5 of the hurricanes to become major hurricanes with winds of 111 mph or greater.

I'm amazed they can even attempt such a prediction that far in advance. This was dated Dec 9, 2009 for a season that begins in late summer 2010.

Hurricane Earl is threatening the Outer Banks of North Carolina now and could threaten Cape Cod and Nova Scotia, Canada later this week.

Every year your hurricane posts make me feel lucky to be here Camp. I dont know how people can live in those areas knowing this sort of thing happens year after year.

30, 000 residents and tourists have been ordered to evacuate Dare Co., North Carolina. This of course is coming on Labor Day weekend in the USA, the unofficial end of summer and a big holiday. Millions of people would be heading to beaches along the east coast this weekend under normal circumstances.

We just had a huge power outage last night , due to the rain and we had strong winds this week. We were told the dirt and rain
caused 3 transformer plants to go down.

I would much rather this than a hurricane for sure ..
