"Imagine yourself walking through the trees of a wooded island rumored to hide buried pirate treasure. Suddenly you come across a depression in the ground. It's roughly circular and there's a tree standing above it with a branch that has been cut and appears to have been used as a pulley. Your imagination is fired and hope soars. You run off to get your friends and digging equipment."

Maybe it is a never ending pit, is that even possible? I mean to go 200ft, and still nothing? I think I'd have to go with myth not fact. Just my opinion.

I hope someday a serious effort to excavate the site is made. I mean with drag lines etc.

The Oak Island pit has been a subject of conjecture for over a century now.It would seem safe to say that the shaft is definitely of man made construction and arguably engineered with a brilliance that was uncommon for the age.The thing we know is that the pit has and may contain something. They have removed the tablets ,a chain and various other smaller artifacts from the shaft that are in themselves a treasure. Now,what is at the bottom of the shaft is anyones guess and everyones questions. The problem lies that the composition of the island is such that digging down to it has proved almost impossible.I believe one rocket scientist came up with the idea of digging a shaft along side the original and lining it with rail road cars!.It would seem that in order to reach the bottom of the shaft, you first have to learn from the past.To understand how this pit was engineered and the geology of the island may present problems problems in the excavation. It will be interesting to see what finally is found, and hopefully it will not be another Al Capones safe episode.

Railroad cars? LOL! I don't think we have to worry (much) about it turning into another Capone vault, just don't let Geraldo anywhere near the place.

I did see a program on the History channel the other day that said that the two 80 year old men whom own the island and have been in dispute over are now talking about selling to an outside interest. But I am not sure when the program was filmed and have not heard anything about an actual sale being completed.

lets take up a collection, maybe Ghost Study can buy the island and we can all take turns digging. If nothing else we can use the place for a big GS party every Halloween and Christmas.

I have always loved this mystery......way back then, how on earth did they manage to get the shaft sooo far down in the sand without it caving in on them.......

I wonder if we will ever solve this one. :ermm:

Couldn't they use something like what they use to see the ocean floor with to see if there really is something at the bottom?

Hey Morning...that it..why dont they do that? That make so much more sence then what they are doing..the last I heard it was for sale as was stated. But I havent heard anything else about it...I dont have cable anymore so all my documentries I used to watch and the likes I cant anymore until I get it back..which more then likely will not happen for a few more months..that is where I get most of my info is from Docs as well.
