I forgot to put this up here until now. This morning one of my friends email got puffed as she puts it...A worm got into her email thru either a site or another email or what ever and it sent mail to all her friends in her contacts. It was empty it looked like..the heading just said Hello...and her friends thought it was from her and it wasnt..it was from her email..but she didnt send it. But one of our friends said it alerted his virus alert sayin it had a virus in it. But to avoid this happening to you..do this and it will stop it from happening to you..and tell your friends that way nothing can be sent to you thru them either. (this worm she got or what ever hit hotmail accounts..this one only sent it to all her hotmail friends) but I have Wormalert thing I am goin to explain in my yahoo and hotmail so to catch anything that tries.

Ok I am posting how to do it with pics..because I dont explain to well at times...

I will explain how to do it in hotmail..but its basicly the same thru out the diff emails..just make sure you put in the new contact email space..the 0's ....It will be like this: 0000Wormalert@hotmail.com or yahoo.com or what ever you are using.

QUOTE
GO into your contacts..and click on New for new contact...then when it comes up type this in what the pic shows you:

and once your done click save.. make sure you name it with the 0's first so it will be first in your favs in your hotmail and first in the line of your contacts on either yahoo or hotmail...or what ever email you use, IT will come up like this...

Now since you did this and a worm or anything tries to email anyone on your list .. it cant get past the Worm alert and it will send you a message sayin mail failed..and then when clickin on it it will come up and tell ya what mail failed and if it says Worm alert..is the one that failed ,then something was tryin to send your contacts mail..with out you knowing..but the joke is on them...now you will. Aaaahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa...hehehehe A comp savy friend told me to do this..long ago.

I will put this on the Best of the web too for safe keeping.

This is a great and very simple way but I don’t think it will actually stop the worm from emailing itself to everyone on your list. Just because it wasn’t able to send the email to this one address doesn’t mean it didn’t sent it to the others. But at least it will let you know that a worm was sent out so that you can let everyone on your list know that a worm was sent out to them and to delete the mail before opening it.

Another way is to put your own email address in your contact list. If you receive an email from yourself then you would know a worm was sent out to your friends.

You wouldn’t have to worry about opening the email you sent to yourself to see what was sent to your friends because you already have the worm. LOL… Usually the email will have something they want you to click on… check out this site.. Click here to see a fire works display on your screen…. Click here to see a pic of a…. etc.. As long as the person doesn’t click on the link then they will usually not get the worm… worms usually have viruses attached to them so if you have a worm then check your computer for viruses.

Below I am just blabbering so you don’t have to read it.. LOL…

My mom got the fire works one and it sent me an email. Since I already knew about this worm I didn’t click on the link that was in the email so I didn’t get the worm/virus but I did have to go over to my moms. I asked her if she received an email from someone and when she click on the link in it, did she see fireworks. She said yes and that the fireworks were pretty. Her brother sent her the email and since it came from her brother she thought it was safe to click it. I told her NO!!!! then laughed. I then explained to her about worms and viruses. She then watched me work on her computer for a couple hr doing research on how to best remove the virus/worm and removing it. Then we had to send out emails to everyone on her list to explain the problem and how to fix it if they did click on the link in the email and told my uncle that his worm/virus sent my mom a worm/virus, etc., etc..

This ones funny…. My uncle calls me to say he has a virus and couldn’t get rid of it and asked me if I would go and remove it for him. Now this is a 45 min drive to his place! Since he was so worried about it I went. He showed me his Recycle Bin/garbage pail and he had the same file deleted in it about 100 times. He told me he got an email telling him about this file and that if he had it to delete it because it was a virus that could do serious damage to his computer. So he kept deleting it but it kept popping back in the same place so he kept deleting it. So I do research and found out it was just a joke. It’s a file that windows automatically makes so no matter how often he deletes it it would always come back. It was not a virus. My uncle didn’t find it funny for having me go all the way to his place for a joke virus alert and making him worry that he had a serious virus. LOL….

BlueRose...I was thinkin the same thing..how did it work by the way of stoping the worm..I dont really fully understand it...I got my info from a friend who is a comp wiz...I dont know if it stops it or not..never got a worm or anything thur the email to test it out. THat goodness ! Friends on my email list is pretty good at keepin me informed if they get anything ...either thru postings or pms. So so far I have never got anything like Worms..to see if it works. I can see how it can tell you if something was being sent by sending you a failure mail notice..but on how it blocks it I have not a clue. I see what your sayin. I have to get ahold of him and ask how it does it. I thought he said something about if the first mail didnt go thru then it couldnt get past it. (big ol shrug here) But at least it will tell you if you ever did get a worm tho. Thanks for the info hun.

Ugh...I heard that joke viruses is a bad thing because it could make you delete things in the comp and in doin that you can mess up your comp. Ugh I hope he doesn t get something like that again ..that would so of angered me also.

Doodle...I have a few friend who keeps me updated on things like that. And send me info all the time. ..sometime to much stuff and I want to scream lmbo. But they mean well and it does keep me on my toes. Hey one other good way to keep updated to on whats goin on with diff alerts thats goin out is subscribing to PC Magazine (sp) I dont mean subscribe to their mag..but to their newsletters...click on it and when you get there go clear down to the bottom ..and click what Newletters you want. I get the Security alerts and their New alerts. They are pretty darn good at keepin ya updated on whats out there in the way of worms viruses and what not. Like there is a new worm out there that attacks Drive Sticks..didn tknow that....and it told me what to do if you ever got it. So far I havent. But I guess it got real bad at one point over the net. Oh ya and Pc Magazine also has alot of free down loads ..lots of diff things...for graphics or security and everything. I love this site and its safe too...no viruses on anything you down load from there. Its as safe as C/Net. Hope that helps and gives a fun things to do if you go there and look for fun things to down load.

You welcome Chell. biggrin.gif

i think your friend had a backdoor on their computer,a trojan, and the hackers trojan sent out the emails.worms dont do that.unless there is a new worm that can act like a backdoor trojan that i havent heard about. :)

I think you may beright Fallen. I prob got the wrong word...and the name prob was trojan and not worm. Thank you for clearing that up hun. Sorry about that.

Thank goodness I dont have to deal with that Chell. But my daughter does(she hates those sites she says they are degrating in which I agree with her)...her soon to be hubby goes on those sites and he has given her viruses thru email so many times. But here is a question tho...can he give them to her when they are on IM..or do you have to send something thru IM like a file to get one thru there? She has quit opening his mail up now..when she gets one from him she deletes it automaticly now lol. I dont blame her.
