In Indianna there is a grove of trees that have rocks wedged into their limbs. The most famous of these trees, Gobblers Rock, has succumbed to storms. But was photographed with the rock still in between its limbs

I also found this article: http://kvoa.com/Glob...39&nav=HMO6HMaW

But cant find much more. Does anyone know of any links or more pics out there? Cheers.

I grew up in Indiana, and I'm going with bored person(s) possibly teens (but not necessarily) with access to time and equipment. Equipment that could do this might be found on some local farms.

I agree, I could imagine bored Maine teens doing this. For some reason, I found this very humorous.

Some of the small towns in Indiana, have basically a grocery, a gas station and a school... and maybe a farm supply place... and really nothing else. Teens get incredibly bored and find all sorts of trouble to get into, often involving alchohol and pranks.

Of course, when I lived there, the internet didn't really exist yet.

I am a lifelong resident of Indiana (a Hoosier) but didn't know about this.
Here is yet another link on it.

I think what struck me about it is the scale of it; the links elude to many many trees in the area with rocks in their branches.

Then again, that probably just means a WHOLE townfull of bored kids

The second article mentions logging in the area... Lumberjacks would have the equipment for heavy lifting, and possibly the beer, testosterone, and boredom...

There's a tree here in Rhode Island, there's a tree that has rocking horses stuck to it's branches, without the rockers. There's at least 3 or 4 of them up there

I think they were put there when the tree was young, and the branches kinda grew around them. Very cool looking

In one of the big parks just outside of HX town center someone recreated a very large version of the hanging stick things from the blair witch project and then a few people followed suit and then a few more..... it looks really creepy. I don't know if they are still there or not. Bored teens again but I suppose it is better than smashing up cars and puking up cider on street corners.

I don't think I'll ever get bored enough to put rocks in trees. :ermm:

When we got bored we gathered up as many people we could for a game of kickball. Or Ghost Hunting. Though when I was younger the only ghost hunting we did was in cemeteries, which we had to be careful of police. We live in a really small town too, but never got that bored.
