I found a couple of articles about a body discovered missing one hand, and put into the hollow middle of a Wych-Elm tree. She was never identified and no one ever really discovered who may have killed her or why. Everything from spying, witch-craft to a indifferent lover has been speculated but nothing proven.

That's really scary. I've never heard of this case before. I wonder what really happened to her. They'll probably never find out now.

The thing that gets me is the missing hand (the telltale sign of an occult killing in local beliefs) and the fact that, even with such identifying teeth still in the skull - no one has a clue who she is.......

If she wasnt local - how far could she have been transported to be stuffed into a hollow tree? The mind boggles.

Though if she was a traveller when alive, the first puzzle to solve is "where was she visting from" and then maybe "Did anyone know of her locally?"

I think the traveller (spy?) from probably mainland Europe being killed in the park with the tree, or even killed IN the tree.

Also with the murder probably happening around the time of the war, maybe the dental records/dentist, didn't survive to provide the ID.
