Just outside of Houston, Texas, is a subdivision called Newport; an upper-middle class neighborhood with neat lawns and very nice houses--a normal looking place; however, the land on which this neighbor hood was built is anything but normal.

I grew up near Crosby, went there alot as a kid, certain areas people did not venture into, the newport area was always said to have ghost of slaves. Came across this story by accident, but not surprised by what I read. I have a cousin who lives in the area now, need to ask her if she knows of the stories.

This story has been on Unsolved Mysteries. Personally, I think ghosts probably have better things to do than protect their decaying corpses. Not that I believe in "ghosts" but just saying, that if they do exist, wouldn't they rather watch their families grow instead of watching their own bodies rot.
Also, I see plenty of "ghost hunter" shows on TV and I'm sure they know about this place. If there was paranormal activity there in the 80's it seems it should still be there. I'm sure it has been researched and if there was any proof of ghosts it would be made public to cash in on the fame and fortune. If someone were able prove the existence of ghosts, they would be incredibly rich and famous because of their discovery.
Sounds like an urban legend that paranormal enthusiasts want to believe is true.

I actually live in this subdivision and have just started researching claims of the paranormal here because myself and my family have been witnesses to a few of them in our own house. A few nights ago, I was asleep when my fiance came home from work. Instead of quietly coming into the bedroom to keep from waking me, he flicks the bedroom light on and asks me if I'm awake. He reports he saw a dark figure standing over me in my sleep. Then, early this morning, I was laying in bed and something caught the corner of my eye towards my son's room down the hall. His door was closed, but he had a nightlight on, and I could see the light leaking out from under the door, but I could also see a greenish-white flicker that I can only describe as Tinkerbell-like from the movie Hook... it was like a little ball of greenish light that kept bouncing around near the bottom of his door. So I got up quietly and went to the door, so if it were my 6 year old son playing he wouldn't hear me sneak up on him, and I quickly opened the door to a normal room with no dancing greenish light. My son was asleep in his bed across the room and there was no sight of anything like a green flashlight or anything that would cause the light. A friend at work today suggested I start researching haunting claims in my neighborhood and OMG was I surprised to find out that where I live is a hotbed for paranormal activity.
